Two doctoral students in the Department of Family Therapy (DFT) in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) were elected recently to 2-year terms as officers of the Broward Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (BAMFT). Michael S. Rhodes, M.S., LMFT, is president, and Samantha Toney, M.S., is president-elect. Their terms began January 1, 2010. Jason Wasser, M.S. (NSU 2005), LMFT, was elected as a board member-at-large, and Sloane Veshinski, M.S. (NSU 1993), LMFT, CAP, will continue on the board as Immediate Past President.
Doctoral Students and NSU alumnae Michelle Small, M.S., and Katherine Hatzitheodorou, M.S., will serve as secretary and board member (Student Representative), respectively.
The Broward Association for Marriage and Family Therapy is a chapter of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). Its members are professional family therapists. The local chapter sponsors continuing education opportunities for licensed therapists and interns, and serves as a forum to mentor family therapy students and grow the profession. For example, BAMFT recently provided NSU’s Consortium for Narrative Research and Practice $300 in scholarships for marriage and family therapy students who are AAMFT members to attend Consortium conferences.
