SHSS Faculty, Alums, and Students present at ACR Conference in Atlanta

Judith McKay, J.D. Ph.D., associate professor and chair of the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies and several graduates and doctoral candidates in the Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) gave presentations at the Association for Conflict Resolution's Annual Conference in Atlanta on Oct. 7-10. McKay presented her theoretical framework, literature review, and research design for her upcoming study entitled: "A Phenomenological Study of the Role of Social Capital and Transformative Narrative in Community Building to Create New Paradigms for Individual and Social Change."

The following graduates and doctoral candidates in the Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution in SHSS also gave presentations:
  • Tom Maytok, Ph.D. and Barbara Strahl, Ph.D., doctoral graduates, gave a presentation entitled: "Confronting Hate Speech."
  • Victor Quiros, Ph.D., doctoral graduate, gave a presentation entitled: "Bridging All Voices of a Community into the Change Process: Exploring a Model of Dialogue for Identifying Issues and Barriers in Community Conflict: Exploring the Presence of Difference: Do We Look Different: Do We Act Different."
  • Debra Jones, Ph.D., doctoral graduate, gave a presentation entitled: "Spirituality in Mediation “What Does It Look Like, What Does It Feel Like, and How Does It Affect the Process?"
    Meridith Gould, doctoral candidate presented "Conflict Resolution Strategies for Urban Youth: A Model for Success."
  • Barbara Sunderland Manousso, doctoral candidate, presented "Building a Team in Elder Care: The Dynamics of Professional Resources and Their Impact on Successful Mediations."
  • Toran Hansen, graduate of the master’s program gave a presentation entitled: "Identifying Fundamental Values for the Field of Conflict Resolution."
